THE GREEN TASTING

Eight mezcals for spring, in the backyard: an herbal, grassy exploration of color as flavor

Friday, April 14 / 8 pm / $95

Awake and stretching our limbs after a dormant winter, we’re excited to invite you to the mezcal room’s first backyard tasting of the season! It’s a small one, only 12 seats, so if you’re interested just scroll down to the RSVP form. We’ll be pondering questions like: How can a powerful spirit so often associated with smoke and char be as fresh and lean as a snap pea? What spectrum of “green” flavors exists in mezcal, and which maguey (agave) varieties might be most strongly associated with them? And what does it even mean for a color to be a taste?

This freewheeling investigation will take place at our private space in Sunnyside, Queens. You can expect to meet new people and taste at least eight heritage spirits collected during our travels, representing a range of Mexican geographies, agave varieties, and production processes. Think of it as a conversation, not quite a class.

Spoiler: “Green” mezcals are some of our favorites, and we’ll be breaking out a few real gems.
