Join us in our hidden private space in Sunnyside, Queens, for a decidedly nontraditional tasting of eight deeply traditional mezcals. As always, we’ll try spirits from our travels that you won’t encounter anywhere else in NYC, but this time they’ll embolden us to dive deeper into the very concept of tradition itself. One hugely important aspect of heritage agave spirits is their profound roots in both colonial Mexico and pre-Hispanic Indigenous cultures — an origin that at times induces an intoxicating belief, namely that what we taste today has changed little, or not at all, since the first mezcals were distilled centuries ago. But mezcal isn’t an enchanted island where time stops. Innovation is inevitable. And even the oldest traditions have to come from somewhere…
